Our Story

How it all began

We were both tired on a Sunday, hanging out at The Astoria Biergarten after working the previous night into the early morning for Labor Day weekend, 2015. Still, we had both mustered the energy to venture out to socialize and crack jokes over drinks and halfway decent pub food with a group of about twenty friends or so.

After about an hour, we struck up a conversation and introduced ourselves. Megan was testing out a new app called Periscope (the original TikTok). Steven was trying REALLY HARD to be "in the know" but he had never heard of it…

After Periscope failed to provide the entertainment we were looking for, Steven mentioned he had a date that night and he would have to leave soon. Megan said, "No, you don't."

And just like that, Steven no-showed on his would-be date, and we enjoyed the rest of the evening in each other's presence.

Tidbits

How did you first meet? We were both sick of dating. A few mutual friends were getting together at the Astoria Biergarten and we dragged ourselves out of our respective apartments. And here we are!
Who made the first move? Steven made the first move — plopping himself down at Megan's table and striking up a conversation. Megan came in with the second move by urging Steven to cancel his Tinder date so they could spend more time getting to know each other.
Most memorable date? The Cheese Date. Back in 2016, we spent the day at Universal Studios and decided to go to VIVO Italian Kitchen for dinner. After asking if we wanted cheese with our entrees, our server brought over a HUGE RECTANGULAR BLOCK OF CHEESE and a cheese grater. The block snapped — about three quarters of it landed on our plate. The server said, "Well I can't take it away or use it because of health and safety codes, so it's all yours!" We packed it in our suitcase.
Favorite activity together? Traveling, theme parks, and competitive video games.
Honeymoon plans? Sunny California — the coast, laid-back vibes, and theme parks.
Best meal you've had together? An eight-course dinner at One If By Land, Two If By Sea in NYC, with wine pairings, in Aaron Burr's carriage house — the birthplace of Beef Wellington.
Most memorable trip? Niagara Falls — which is why we're getting married here!
Life goal? Visit every theme park in the world.
Who takes out the trash? Whoever loses at MarioKart.
Dorkiest thing about you two? Our fandom, and relaxing together with MarioKart.
Most spontaneous thing you've done? Tipsy shopping.
Fun fact? CVS regulars — top 1% of ExtraCare Savers in Queens County.
